Steps to plan a successful restaurant renovation project

Start with a clear plan

It all starts with research and analysis. As mentioned above, the restaurant business is a cutthroat competition and knowing your competitors and their actions is a critical factor. Use this information to see how it pairs up with your vision for your restaurant and consider your idea, target audience, brand image and the market. It can give you crucial insight into what the customers are looking for.

The most valuable resource for research is your customers. Many options are available, from simple comment cards or suggestion boxes to your social media accounts. This first-hand feedback can be invaluable. Keep an eye out for negative comments, especially about the atmosphere. If there are any particular complaints, such as the colour scheme or lighting, you have direct input on what to consider during the planning of the renovation.

Our specialists will work with you from the beginning to help you devise an efficient plan to transform your restaurant while ensuring that the core concept is not lost.

Consider Your Layout

Logistics are a significant factor that often is overlooked.

Is your restaurant accessible to everyone?
Are the tables laid out so that it is easy for your customers to manoeuvre around them?
Are the restrooms and exits clearly marked and easy to find?

You also have to look at it from the perspective of your staff.

Is the layout of the tables efficient in establishing clear paths for your servers to deliver the food?
Is there sufficient space to pick up the ready-to-serve food?
Do they have a space to take breaks that is not exposed to customers?

Set Up A Budget

Whether you are looking for a full-scale renovation or just an update to a specific part of your restaurant, setting a budget is critical. Renovation projects often cost more than initially expected, influencing your profits.

Setting up a detailed budget will require special attention and should not be underestimated. Receiving a detailed cost estimate for the renovation will help you determine how to proceed with the choice of materials or the project’s scope.

Prioritize The Critical Issues

Depending on the scope of your renovation process, it is essential to prioritize the must-haves. Any structural issues that may be present should be addressed first before moving on to aesthetic improvements.

Types of restaurant renovation projects

Whether you require a complete restaurant renovation or only a part of it, Senso Design is here to help you realize your plans efficiently and professionally.

Full restaurant remodels

Whether you want to update the look of your restaurant, reconfigure the layout or provide additional space, it all has the same goal: To increase your business’s earning capacity. In these cases, it often is more economical to go for a full-scale renovation to ensure consistency and prevent additional renovations to tie everything together. This includes the kitchen and bathrooms, which should reflect the style and value of the rest of the restaurant. After all, if your restaurant wants to grow, you must ensure that your kitchen can continue to deliver the same top-quality food.

The experienced designers and experts of Senso Design will oversee the entire process, from the initial planning stages to the full execution of the renovations. We will ensure that your vision for your restaurant will come to life, from the exterior look over the kitchen and bathrooms to the interior design of the dining room.

Kitchen renovations

While your customers will likely never see your kitchen, it is the heart of your restaurant. Suppose the kitchen does not operate correctly and efficiently. In that case, the rest of your business will suffer, so a kitchen renovation will not only make your chef’s life easier by providing them with the equipment and space they require but also help with efficiency.

Whether you need to reconfigure the kitchen layout to make it more functional, update equipment or increase the capacity, a great, functional kitchen can make a significant difference for your staff and your restaurant. The experienced designers of Senso Design can help you design a practical and efficient kitchen while keeping your budget in mind. A kitchen renovation can be challenging and complex, but our professionals will be by your side all the way through.

Bathroom renovations

Everybody has read the horror stories of restaurant bathrooms online. While some might think along the “out of sight, out of mind” mind frame, it is critical not to undermine your efforts to give your guests the best experience possible with an outdated, unhygienic bathroom.

The dining experience extends to every part of your restaurant, so it’s crucial to pay attention to the bathrooms and instead make them an extension of the look of the rest of the restaurant.

Interior design updates

Sometimes your dining room or bar needs an update, either to reflect a new chapter in the story of your restaurant or just because it needs freshening up. Our designers will work closely with you to plan and ensure that the design and look reflect your brand and give you the necessary functionality.

Your restaurant renovation may require special considerations regarding lighting, wiring, ventilation systems, heating, air conditioning, painting, water, and more. Senso Design has the experience and expertise to combine all these pieces of the puzzle to give your restaurant the theme, style and ambience you want.

Exterior updates

The exterior of your restaurant can play a crucial role in attracting customers to your establishment. It is your restaurant’s calling card and an extension of what your patrons will experience. Generally, people only choose restaurants that are attractive to the eye. An unattractive exterior often makes them doubt the quality of the food as well.

Whether it is signage or decor, the best renovation will not achieve much if people don’t find your restaurant in the first place. And your customers’ experience begins before they even set foot into the business, and they look for something that looks and feels fresh and comfortable.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mark has been helpful since day one when I first called to inquire on renovating our kitchen, family room and changing our flooring on our ground floor and refinishing our stairs. We did not realize it was such a big project, at least for us. But Mark patiently explained everything to us, from planning, design, choices of materials and timeline. I was supposed to get a quote from another company but was so convinced that Senso will meet our expectations. We did not make a mistake. Everything went extremely well, from coming up with a great design and layout to the hardworking, efficient, well mannered construction crew. My wife and myself are really, really impressed on the work that they have done. The finished product looks so fantastic! Kudos to Mark and his team for an excellent job! I highly recommend Senso. This is a great and well run company.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had two bathroom renovations done with Senso Design, one was 3 piece bathroom badly in need as we had leaks from years of wear and tear and the other for Master bedroom which we wanted to renew. After a call to the office, Roman arranged a meeting to discuss in detail what Senso Design could do as well as providing an estimate. I decided to go with Senso after talking to Roman as he ensured that I understood their approach and their design approach. The estimate was reasonable though it did go over significantly as I asked to add some upgrades later on such as for floor heating, wall mounted toilet and custom vanity but we were fully satisfied of the extra expenditures as we felt they were well worth the expense. Roman was my go-to-guy as he was there from the beginning to the very end, made sure that my requests were fulfilled even at the very end as well as arranged to have cleaners come in after the main work was completed. The whole process went pretty smoothly as electrician, plumbers and other workmen came in every day to complete the project. Again we were very happy that we selected Senso and we do not hesitate to ask them again for our next project.
